Evenings are longer, better weather is here
and restrictions have eased… Can only mean 1 thing….. Get the bike out
.
No one will be dropped, EVER, on a social run.
There will always be a road captain to guide and promote our health and safety policies
No helmet-no ride!Nice short, flat route.Come along, try it out and see for yourself how lovely we all are ![]()

Here is the schedule for club runs. Subject to change – any amendments will be posted on Social media and in our messenger groups at our earliest convenience

by Theresa,
2020 cycling season is almost upon us, there is a hint spring in the air and with the clocks changing in a few weeks we will soon get those horrid mud guards off, and those of us who have the luxury of a winter bike can park her up for another season!
We have had a mixed bag of winter training happening behind the scenes
First up are the ‘die hards’ who have been out in all weather conditions

And then we have ‘the zwifters’ who have been hiding in their garages on their turbos.
Next up are ‘the gym bunnies’ going to various spin classes, circuits, weights
, running
and
And lastly the ‘good weather’ cyclists who are patiently waiting for the big yellow circle to make an appearance in the sky
Thanks to the road captains the Sunday Club Runs continued through the Winter, with good attendance most weeks.
Thanks also to Mark Mcclenaghan for his ongoing support to the Tuesday night flying squad which continued most weeks too.
Keep an eye on our Facebook Page and Messenger for when the following will recommence
Tuesday Night Roche run
Wednesday night Development programme
Thursday night training
Every Saturday for the month of March Gary O’Connor will be doing a ‘get bike fit quick’ session in and around Donard. A route will be posted at the beginning of each week, this was a bit of craic last year and is a good morning out for all abilities.
CCC AGM is being held on Wednesday 25th March. The committee invites and encourages as many members as possible to attend.
Housekeeping
Club Fees – the committee are currently reviewing Cycle Ireland membership. If your membership has lapsed you MUST renew before attending any CCC rides. Associate members (or potential associate members) MUST also pay club membership before attending any further CCC rides. The only Exception to this is when a cyclist is availing of 3 club runs before committing to join our club. Apart from that 1 scenario if you aren’t a fully paid member you aren’t insured to Cycle with the club and will be turned away from club runs.

👚 6th October saw an amazing turnout at Granite challenge 2019….so many CCC jerseys in the sea of over 370 cyclists.
The weather was much better than last year, and we had a great representation from across all abilities. Well done everyone 👏
🕒 Now that the clocks have changed we will revert to Winter cycling times. The new time for Sunday winter run will be 9am @ Supervalu
☀ ✈ Majorca Trip 2019… Well what can I say other than Amazing! Mark Mcclenaghan organised the very successful trip. 28 of us joined a few already out in Majorca…. We had CCC members and friends Integrity CC and Dromara CC. Everyone had a brilliant time, covered a lot of elevation and miles but also good food, drink and company. Young rocket added his CCC Jersey to the Sports bar wall which is hung with various other clubs who return for their annual cycling holiday also. Thank you for organising Mark. We look forward to Majorca 2020
🚴The development run has finished up for the year. This has been a very successful group for the club with lots of new, and returning, faces. And with the introduction of the Ladies only run the Wednesday night development run has had excellent attendance. The committee hopes everyone enjoyed their time out with the club and would love to see you guys continue with spinning the legs over the winter months.

👚 Good to see CCC jerseys at another local sportive killinchy 150. We also had members partake in Lap the Lough and Tour De Boyne Valley.
The weather for killinchy was not favourable, we had our fair share of wind and a bad downpour of rain but the smell of BBQ from bay view Rd kept everyone going to the end 🍔. The following week then guys got a great day for Lap the Lough. Then Tour de boyne Valley was not so good weatherwise. Albeit all events were very well organised and raised significant funds for very worthy charities.
❇️Some fantastic achievements 👑 , 🏆, 🏅being gained by CCC members. Combination of club runs, Sportives, Strava League, solo rides and other social runs organised by members ad hoc are clicking up significant miles on the Strava club page. Keep on pedalling.
☔ 🍃 ⛈️The good aul weather is going to begin play havoc with club runs. We have already had a few club runs cancelled due to rain and wind. Please check our Facebook and messenger page for notification of cancelled runs. There is a different road captain rota’d each week who will make the final decision and advise accordingly.
🏅Cyclist of the month has been awarded to….. Drum roll please….. 🥁 🥁 🥁 Shaunagh Crowe. Shaunagh has shown great commitment and enthusiasm since she joined the ladies only programme earlier in the year. She has taken part in a few sportives, Killinchy 80km being one and is absolutely Smashing it. Even going on hill hunting expeditions on Monday nights #coileyhill. Shaunagh rarely misses an opportunity to get out, joins in with the Development Run, Social Run and completed strangford lough loop 60+ miles no bother at all. Well done Shaunagh

June 2019
☀ We hosted our annual summer BBQ in June, which was a very successful family event. We had good food, good weather and good craic all round. See the write up on Facebook and CCC website for all the bizz from the evening and some photos too. 📸
👑Fantastic to see everybody still enjoying the competition of ‘The Strava League’. This month’s segments were tough and there’s no doubt everyone is improving as the months go on. So, business as usual as Gary consolidates his lead. Team mate Patrick leapfrogs Siv into 2nd place in the individual competition overall. With Gary and Patrick’s Team ‘Square Wheels’ almost unbeatable at this stage as the only team where all riders have scored in all segments in all months!! All details on CCC website including Top 10 scores and the new Segments for July.
🏅Special shout out to top lady in the Strava League Roisin and top young rider Loris.
🥇Another success for our top lady Roisin was her participation in the Shimna Wheelers Downhill Challenge, where Roisin was crowned 1st Lady. Well done Roisin.
🚴♂️Good to see CCC members at numerous sportives throughout the month. There was Twelve Kings Charity Sportive Challenge hosted by Dromore CC, who welcomed a few members to their refreshment stop (even though they hadn’t officially registered😜, they just happened to be in the area, not mentioning any names #brothers lol)
The Tour of the Glens, the Causeway Coastal and Shimna Wheelers Downhill Challenge were well represented. Well done to everyone who donned their Crossgar Jersey and flew the flag🚩 for our club.
🗓 Save the dates….
Thur 1st August 9pm Table quiz in Corner Inn, £5pp Teams of up to 6 people
Lap The Lough 25th August
❇️Since our last newsletter the club have accumulated a whopping 12,938 miles. That’s alot of peddling, and a lot of coffee ☕ stops with the odd wee ice-cream 🍦 stop when that strange big yellow circle in the sky ☀ made an appearance…… Brilliant effort across the club – Keep spinning those legs!
🏅Cyclist of the month has been awarded to….. 🥁 Drumroll please….. Kurtis Doherty! Not only has Kurtis been accumulating the miles solo, but he has also treated himself to a new bike. Health to enjoy and well done.
It can’t go unmentioned the difference we have all seen since Colm McCaffrey and Donna Burns upgraded their bikes this month. Not to mention the many other cyclists who have been pimping their rides with new helmets, new wheels and even pink socks 🧦 and gloves 🧤 !
🙏A big thank you from the committee on the Housekeeping front. Thanks to all who joined as new members and renewed their membership promptly. Everyone on each club ride is now a fully paid member and more importantly insured through Cycle Ireland to partake in club runs.
🚲 As well as the organised club runs on Tue, Wed, Thur and Sun it is great to see members arranging additional runs. Please remember to post on the club messenger page if you want company.
❓❓As always any questions, suggestions or comments please feel free to contact any member of the committee.

Annual Summer Social Evening Saturday 15th June

This year Crossgar Cycling Club had a fantastic turn out at the Summer BBQ at The Lakeside Inn. There was a real family
atmosphere with members, their partners and children all in attendance. The weather was in our favour
allowing the adults to take advantage of a refreshing beverage
at the summer seats outdoors, while the children played games in the enclosed garden.
There was a wide variety of children’s activities hosted by the Leavy girls including Hook the duck
, popcorn
machine, Nerf gun target practice
, football
, bracelet making and the favourite has to be the chocolate fountain
with mallows and strawberries – Thank you Melissa and Kiera for organising and coordinating, a job very well done!
The adults had a hog roast
with lots of trimmings and the children had hotdogs
. Even Stephen Burns got fed this year – but the committee did bring a wee ham sandwich……just in case he missed the food again lol
We had music in the marquee til after 11pm, when some of the stragglers went in to sit at the fire
in the front room of The Lakeside Inn.
Crossgar Cycling Club hopes everyone enjoyed the evening and welcome any feedback or suggestions for next year.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made the evening so successful.
